Lively but rarely touristy, Saint-Léonard is the first neighbourhood to explore when staying at Hôtel Newstar Montreal, located in the heart of the borough.
Beneath Pie-XII Park lies the only natural cave open to the public on the Island of Montreal. Discovered in 1812 and long known as the Trou de fée, visits are organized by Spéléo Québec and require reservations. It is an unusual outing that appeals to both children and adults.
Wilfrid-Bastien Park, with its outdoor stage and summer events; Giuseppe-Garibaldi Park and its skatepark; and Ermanno-La Riccia Park, a nature park inaugurated in 2022 featuring a walkway over the water.
The Leonardo da Vinci Centre is a cultural hub for the Italian community, while Jean-Talon Street East is known for its Italian dining scene: trattorias, wood-fired pizzerias, specialty grocery stores and pastry shops. Restaurant Joseph and La Pastourelle bar are located directly inside Hôtel Newstar.
An aquatic complex, tennis and baseball courts, and bocce lanes in the borough’s major parks reflect the area’s heritage. The Claude-Robillard Sports Complex, with its Olympic-size pool and ice rink, is about 20 minutes away.
Olympic Park and its museums are about 10 minutes away, Jean-Talon Market 15 minutes, Galeries d’Anjou 10 minutes and Jarry Park 5 minutes.
