What Is a Newstar Studio?

A studio is a single-room living space where the sleeping and living areas share the same room, with a kitchenette and a private bathroom. There is no separate bedroom: this is what distinguishes a studio from an apartment and also helps make it more affordable.

Our 56 studios are located in a separate building from the main hotel. This gives you the quieter atmosphere of a residential-style building while still providing access to hotel services, including a 24-hour front desk, free parking and on-site laundry facilities.

  • Induction cooktop, dishwasher, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, dining area with table and chairs, work desk and chair, and more.
  • Square footage to be confirmed.

No Lease — and Why It Matters

Hôtel Newstar is governed by Quebec’s legislation for tourist accommodation establishments and does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Tribunal administratif du logement. In practical terms:

  • No residential lease to sign, which means no credit check or guarantor requirement
  • No automatic renewal, repossession notice or lease termination process
  • You reserve a specific period and can extend your stay if needed, with one week’s notice
  • You leave when your reserved period ends, with no penalty

This flexible format is especially useful when the length of your stay is uncertain — whether an internship may be extended, a work assignment may run longer than expected, or you are still searching for permanent housing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Studios

What’s the Difference Between a Studio and a Hotel Room?

―

A studio is designed for living, not just sleeping: it includes a kitchenette, dining area and storage, and is located in a separate building from the main hotel. A traditional hotel room is better suited to stays of just a few nights.

What Is the Size of a Studio?

―

To be completed with the actual square footage.

Do I Need to Sign a Lease?

―

No. A simple rental agreement is signed upon arrival, with no commitment beyond the reserved period.

What Is the Minimum Stay?

―

Twenty-eight nights for the monthly rate. Weekly rates are also available for stays of seven nights or more.

Do You Accept Students?

―

Yes. This option is particularly well suited to students completing a semester or internship, as it does not require a 12-month lease, a guarantor or a credit check.

Are Pets Allowed?

―

Yes. Domestic dogs and cats are allowed in designated units, subject to certain conditions. Fees vary depending on the length of stay. View Our Pet Policy

Can I Receive Mail at the Studio?

―

No. The property does not receive or manage postal mail. Please arrange for a P.O. box or mail-forwarding address.

Can I Visit Before Booking?

―

Absolutely. Contact us to schedule an appointment, or simply stop by the hotel front desk. Our staff will be happy to show you around.
